KTX Luggage and Seat Guide for International Travelers
Know Korail's carry-on rule, where to ask about luggage space, and how to handle a lost item on a KTX trip.

Planning a KTX journey is easier when you check the current Korail passenger guidance before departure. Korail's published carry-on rule says a passenger must be able to carry their own belongings, with no more than two pieces; luggage must not occupy a seat or block the aisle. This guide sticks to that official rule rather than importing airline-style size or weight limits that Korail does not publish on the cited page.
What Korail says about carry-on luggage
Korail's passenger information page sets a practical rule: you must be able to handle your luggage yourself, carry no more than two pieces, and keep it out of seats and aisles. The page does not specify a universal suitcase dimension or kilogram limit for ordinary luggage. Do not rely on airline baggage measurements as though they were KTX rules.
If you have an unusually bulky item, mobility needs, or a group with several bags, contact Korail before travel and ask what applies to your train. Keep walkways clear and place belongings so they do not obstruct other passengers or staff. Space can vary by train and carriage; verify your seating and boarding details in the current reservation information.
Before choosing a seat
Seat layouts and onboard facilities can depend on the train service. Review the seat map and information shown during the official booking process before paying, especially if you need adjacent seats, a particular direction, or easier access. Do not assume every KTX model has identical seat orientation, power sockets, or storage arrangements.
Save your train number, departure time, carriage, and seat information. Arrive with enough time to find the platform and board without rushing; follow station displays and staff announcements because platform information can change.
If you lose something
Korail directs passengers who notice a lost item on a train to tell the train attendant. If you notice it immediately after getting off, contact the station office. Korail recommends having the train number, carriage, and seat number available. For an item found later, check Korea National Police Agency's LOST112 service and contact Korail or the station office as instructed.
Keep identification available when collecting property. Korail's lost-property guidance describes identification and authorization documents that may be required if someone collects an item on your behalf. Check that page for the current requirements before making the trip.
A simple pre-departure checklist
- Check your official ticket, date, train number, carriage, and seat.
- Pack no more than you can carry yourself and keep seats and aisles unobstructed.
- Ask Korail about unusual or bulky items before travel; do not assume an airline-style baggage allowance.
- Save the train and seat details in case you need help with a lost item.
Policies and facilities can change. Korail's current passenger guidance is the source of truth for your departure.
