Medical Tourism Consultation Checklist for Korea
Use these questions to clarify the treating clinician, interpreter, written estimate, consent, and follow-up before arranging care in Korea.

This checklist can help international patients prepare for a consultation with a Korean medical provider. It is general planning information, not medical advice or a substitute for a qualified clinician's assessment. The rules and services described by a clinic, interpreter, or coordinator may vary, so confirm the details with the people who will provide your care.
Questions for the treating clinician
Ask who will evaluate you and who will perform each part of the proposed treatment. Request the clinician's full name and specialty, and ask how the recommendation relates to your health history, goals, alternatives, expected recovery, and possible complications. A marketing description or coordinator's message is not a clinical assessment.
Ask the clinician to explain what is known, what is uncertain, and which risks apply to you personally. For a procedure, request time to review the consent form and ask for a translation before signing. You can ask for a written plan that identifies the treatment, responsible clinician, expected follow-up, and whom to contact if symptoms worsen.
Questions about interpreting and communication
Ask whether interpretation is available for the consultation, consent discussion, discharge instructions, and follow-up. Confirm the interpreter's role, language, availability, confidentiality practices, and any fee or cancellation terms. Do not assume that an interpreter arranged for one appointment will be available throughout treatment.
If you are not comfortable with the interpretation, ask the clinic to pause and arrange clarification before making a decision. Important medical instructions should be communicated in a form you understand; do not rely only on a short text exchange to explain a diagnosis, risks, or consent. The exact interpretation services and arrangements are provider-specific, so confirm them directly.
Questions about costs and coordination
Request an itemized written estimate that separates the clinician's fees, facility charges, anesthesia or medicines where relevant, tests, interpreter or coordination services, and follow-up. Ask which amounts are estimates, what might change, what is refundable, and which payment methods are accepted. Do not treat a promotional package as a final bill unless its inclusions and exclusions are written down.
If an agency is involved, ask for its legal business name, registration details where applicable, scope of work, fees, and responsibility for arranging follow-up. Korean law treats foreign-patient-attraction registration for medical institutions and attraction businesses as distinct categories; verify the entity relevant to the service rather than assuming one registration covers everyone involved.
Plan follow-up before travel
Ask the treating clinician what follow-up is recommended and how you can contact the clinic after leaving Korea. If you will fly after treatment, ask the clinician to assess your individual fitness to travel and check any relevant airline requirements. There is no single safe waiting period that applies to every procedure and patient.
Keep your written estimate, signed consent, medical summary, prescriptions, receipts, and contact details. If you are uncertain about a recommendation, you may pause and seek another qualified medical opinion before proceeding.
